Student Work
How Engineering Planet is impacting student learning and knowledge in applied science and technology is illustrated in examples of student work connected with the individual lessons. Several introductory lessons are given early in the school year and then are repeated in a slightly different format to assess student understanding of the "Big Picture" ideas. For example, student work on "What is Biocomplexity" illustrates in many ways a progression of connecting disaggregated components early in the year to complex depictions of biogeochemical systems much later in the school year after the lesson sequences are taught. Skill development in terms of reporting and interpreting laboratory results is a positive result in the student lab write-ups. Finally, the lessons on researching prominent engineers and applied scientists in the "Wanted Biocomplexity Scientist" and "Researching Engineers" are intended to broaden student perception on "who" becomes a professional in technology.
